Aidee Damian is the founder of Plata Viva, a women-led Mexican jewelry business based in Ontario, Canada.
Originally from Mexico City and now living in Neyaashiinigmiing (Cape Croker) with her Anishinaabe husband and their son, Aidee created Plata Viva as a bridge between her Mexican roots and her life in Canada.
Meaning "Living Silver," Plata Viva celebrates the renowned silversmithing tradition of Taxco while collaborating with Mexican women artisans from rural and Indigenous communities. Through sterling silver, embroidery, textiles, wood, clay, and other traditional materials, Aidee brings their craftsmanship and stories to new audiences in Canada.
Her mission is to celebrate and support Mexican women artisans, honour cultural knowledge and traditional craftsmanship, and create meaningful connections through wearable art: sourced in Mexico, assembled in Canada, and worn everywhere.
